How it works
From the first call to the last paper
Five steps, and you can stop after any of them.
- 01
Step 1: You call, or send a photo
A photo of the paper, or just the story. We ask for your name and the other side’s so we can check for a conflict.
- 02
Step 2: We read it and tell you what it is
In that first conversation we explain what the paper means, which dates matter and whether it is a case we take.
- 03
Step 3: Who makes the call
If we are the right fit, we send a plan and how we charge in writing. You can still say no and keep what you learned.
- 04
Step 4: Our part
Letters, filings, hearings. You hear from us when something changes, and you can ask at any time.
- 05
Step 5: It ends on paper
A signed agreement, a court order or a closing letter, and a copy for your folder.
A quick check before you call
Four questions that tell you whether this is our kind of case.
Is there a date on a paper?
A hearing or a deadline means call today.
Is the home near Plainfield?
We work in the local courts. Farther away, we will point you to someone nearer.
Renter or small landlord?
Both are welcome. If the other person already called us, we cannot act for you, and we will say so right away.
Is it about housing?
Evictions, deposits, repairs, leases and housing discrimination. For anything else, we will tell you who to try.
For the first conversation
Whatever papers you have
If something is missing, come anyway. We can often get it, or work without it.
The lease, and any renewal or addendum
Every notice and court paper, front and back
Proof of payment: receipts, bank records, money-order stubs
Texts, emails and photos, with dates

Got a paper in your hand? Bring it, or send a photo.
A photo of the front and back is enough to start. We will tell you what it is and what the dates on it mean.
Please don't send confidential details through the web form. We'll ask for them on the phone or in person.
